3rd Year Well Check

We went to the doctor this morning for Gaby's big girl well check.

Now, my daughter has never really embarressed me in public before, soooo I guess there is always a first time for everything! WOW! Did she throw a fit! A full on temper tantrum. And it was over the silliest thing....

Today was a rainy day, so Gaby had on her new Hello Kitty rainboots which she loves b/c they are just like her cousin Mia's. Of course, the first thing they have you do when you walk in is to get a weight and height measurement. Well, in order to do that one must take off one's shoes! As you can imagine, Gaby was not one bit interested in taking off her precious boots. So the fight began. And as is not at all usual, no amount of reasoning, followed by threatening, followed by bribing would convince her to take the darn boots off. By this point, I'm starting to get hot and flustered and completely embarressed. We basically had to get the weight by sitting her on the baby scale and her height after many minutes of debating, coercing and finally the promise of ice cream.

So then we get to sit in the little room to wait for the doctor and she starts getting all cutesy with me. Looking up at me with those big brown eyes, saying that I'm her best friend, and telling me she's happy now. Little stinker. By the time Dr. Ruiz comes in she's as sweet and as cooperative as can be. Oh well, I guess we all have our moments.

She ended up having to get the flu shot today so needless to say the trip ended with another screaming, crying fit but all in all she did pretty well and did get some ice cream as her prize. Dr. Ruiz said that at the 4 yr visit she'll end up getting 5 shots! Yikes! At least I have a whole year to prepare for that!

Her stats:
Weight 34 lbs (75%)
Height 38 in (50-75%)

Our Best New Artist

Last night was the Grammys and we had such a fun time watching it. We let Gaby stay up a little late because many of her favorite people were preforming. I wanted to write this down to see if these artists are still around when Gaby is in her teens and 20s.

Her all time favorite at this moment is Lady Gaga.
Santa gave me the CD for Christmas in my stocking and we've been jamming to it ever since. Even though she is a little freaky, it really is a great album. All the songs are up tempo and have such great beats. And Gaby loves singing along to them. It's just too cute! If there was only a video camera on us as we sang our hearts out in the car. It would be pretty darn funny :)

Gaby's other current faves are Beyonce, The Black Eyed Peas & Madonna.

Watching the Grammy show was so cool for Gaby b/c she could actually see the songs she likes being preformed live. Byron and I had a blast singing and dancing with her too :)

Not funny.

So I'm in my closet this morning getting dressed w/my sweet Gaby hanging out in there with me.

When out of nowhere, she ever so sweetly places her tiny little hands on my belly, looks up with her beautiful brown eyes.............and then gives my belly a good shaking & jiggling and starts cracking up laughing.

Ouch!!! I guess that means mommy might need to start doing some crunches ASAP.

*sigh*

3rd Bday Bash

Gaby's party was such blast! It was at The Champions Academy where she takes her gymnastics lessons and there was so much room to run and jump and play. Gaby was truly giddy from the moment her grandparents started arriving in the morning and was smiling until she went to bed that night. It was so much fun to have all of her (and our) friends in one room to celebrate her big day. I know she felt special and enjoyed every single minute. It was an awesome day!! Check out some of the pics below...

Birthday Morning

The birthday girl was very excited to wake up that morning to us singing "Happy Birthday" to her.

And what's better than a song?? A new necklace, of course.

And what's better than a new necklace?

Cake for breakfast, of course :)

Big Girl Bed !!

Gaby's room before... And after... I just love my new bed :)You might have been wondering what Gaby was getting for her 3rd Bday. Well, as an official big girl we got her a big girl bed! And oh, how excited has she been! Truth be told, Gaby was still perfectly content in her crib. But it just seemed like the appropriate time to make the switch.
So last week it was delivered and she's been loving it ever since! It's actually made her sleep later in the mornings- yipee! I think it's because her mattress is so darn comfortable. We love laying in it with her. She hasn't gotten the concept that she could get down whenever she wants. She still calls out in the morning. I hope that lasts. Big thanks to Pito & Pita who bought her all the bedding for her birthday. It's super cute, isn't it??

Peanut's Party

Gaby and I made a quick trip to Houston to make it to our friend, Preston's, first birthday party. Peanut's (as we like to call him) mom, Patty, and I were college roommates. It was at the Children's Museum. That place is awesome! Next time we're in town, we are going to have to make a special trip there to really check it out. Happy Birthday, Preston! We had fun :)

We finally did it!!!!!

If there's one thing that maybe I have a teeny, tiny regret about is Gaby not getting her ears pierced when she was really little. I am Latin, afterall, and that's just what we do. I actually went to the mall one day when she was about three months old and totally chickened out. After that, it seemed like she was so much more aware of things and I just couldn't bring myself to cause my poor little child pain and/or discomfort. And of course, I believed she would blame me for her pain. So it just never happened.

For about six months now, Gaby has been saying she wanted earrings. I explained to her that they would have to pinch her ears to make holes in them and that it would hurt for a little bit. That didn't seem to matter to her. She's been pretty relentless and insitent on the fact that she wanted earrings. She is such a girlie girl!

So this past weekend, we actually went for it. It would be part of her birthday present. My niece, Suzy, came with us.
That's one excited little girl... Thank goodness they did them both at once... About three seconds after the pop, Gaby's face went from excited to OUCH!!!!! Poor sweetie did cry, but just for a little bit...
After that, we were all smiles and soooo happy to have big girl earrings!!! Way to go, kiddo :)
She looks too cute!

The Princess and the Frog

Once you see your first movie, there's no time like the present to see your second one, right? So last weekend, Gaby and her two buds, Ellington and Reese, headed to the theater to see The Princess and the Frog. It was a really cute movie although I don't get why the scary parts have to be soooo scary. What's funny, though, is when I asked Gaby what her favorite part was she said- "The frogs. And the scary part." Go figure. Maybe we have a future horror film junkie on our hands??

You're my best friend.

We've been hearing this for a little while now. I think she must have picked it up at school. It is such an amazing thing to hear from your own kid- "Mommy, you're my best friend!". I love it! It melts my heart.

But on the contrary Byron gets "You're not my best friend, Daddy!". Uggggg. I'm sure that feels like a daggar to the heart everytime. But what we've come to realize is that only girls can be Gaby's best friend and not boys.

Which I can't figure out if that's a good thing or not. But it definitly shows how early the distinction between boys and girls begins.

Now trying to explain the concept that even though Daddy is a boy he can still be her best friend b/c he's her Daddy has been hard to get through to her. Sometimes she'll agree, most times not so much. I wish she could be a little more flexible in her rules.

In any case, I'll take it everytime I hear it because I'm pretty sure that if you ask her when she's a teenager if Mom's her best friend she would say something like- "Whatever, Mom". *sigh*

My boys.

Gaby has certainly taken to having pets. She adores her boys and is constantly loving on them. Now poor Ozzie (the black one) really never wanted too much to do w/our cutie. But it seems as he gets older and wiser. he realizes that it's much easier to play along and let her do what she wants with him, than to fight it. That includes patting, hugging, kissing, covering with blankets, and having necklaces put on. Of course, since Ozzie has been a little more standoffish with her, Gaby says that "Rosko is my baby and Ozzie is your baby, mommy". Which has pretty much been the story of poor Ozzie's life. Always playing second fiddle to the number one dog in the universe, our sweet Rosko. But seriously, both of our puppies really are the best and we all just love them to pieces!

First Movie

Over Christmas break, we took Gaby to see her first movie ever in a movie theater. We went to see The Chipmunks: The Squeakel. Gaby was super excited to see the girl chipmunks. "Can I have some M&Ms, pleeeeeeease??" The whole gang went with us :) It was a super cute movie and we all really enjoyed it!

We already have alot of fun plans for the coming year.

Final Stop: The Farm

After a few fun days at Mimi & Papa's house we headed to the farm in Louisiana. Candie and Steven took little Tanner back home but we brought Mia with us. Oh, do the girls have fun at the farm!! They didn't mind one bit that it was pretty chilly that week. They loved being outside, running after Papa, playing with their older cousins and visiting with family. They were both so well behaved and enjoyed themselves completely. MawMaw loves seeing her great grandbabies... This is what they looked like each night after a full day of fun with absolutely NO naps... Four wheeling fun!!! Picking beautiful Camilias... A four generation picture... Mimi & Papa just love having their girls around... The farm is peaceful and quiet,
yet full of family, love and LOTS of good eats :)
